August brought record-breaking rainfall to Death Valley which created some temporary must-see sights. Keep reading to see why NOW is a great time to visit
Standing on 4" of water
The main stop
There is a temporary lake over Badwater Basin right now. This is Lake Manly which has been dry for 10,000 years. It's literally a once-in-a-lifetime sight to see in the lowest point in North America. Plan your trip soon before it evaporates!
Sunrise and sunset are great times to visit the salt flat. Try to plan around a calm/ wind-less day to see the reflection on the lake.
But if you can visit during a full moon, see it at night too!
Pay Attention To
All the rain has also caused wildflowers to bloom... in late Fall! The yellow flowers are popping all around the valley floor on the drive in.
There was a lot more water when I visited on Nov 25, 2023 than I expected so I think the lake will be here for at least a few more weeks, maybe even months, but who knows... Use my guide to help plan your winter trip for the best spot to see Lake Manly.
