Fall Hikes

Fall is one of the best times to hit the trail—cooler temps, quieter paths, and of course, those golden aspen leaves. I’ve pulled together all of my fall hiking trip reports so you can browse ideas by state and get inspiration for some of the best fall hikes in the western U.S.

While many of these trails can be explored in spring, summer, or fall, this list is meant to give you a better sense of timing, weather, and where to catch fall colors at their peak. And if you’re not chasing changing leaves, fall is also one of the best seasons to start exploring the Southwest desert. This isn’t every single hike I’ve done—just the ones I’ve written about so far (and have personally hiked during Sept-Nov and would recommend)—but it should give you a solid starting point for planning your own adventures.

If you’re planning a trip and want extra guidance, I also offer custom itinerary planning and consultation calls—you can schedule one with me here. Or follow me on Instagram @followtiffsjourney for me trip inspo and ideas.
